Job Description

The PhysicalEducation Specialist will convene and provide support to the CPS PhysicalEducation Leadership Team (PELT) and will lead the development, piloting andimplementation of a comprehensive Physical Education K-12 curriculum,corresponding assessments and professional development. The Specialist will work to supportinitiatives in the Office of Teaching and Learning; including policies,programs, and initiatives.

The PhysicalEducation Specialist will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:

* Write and pilot a K-12 Physical Educationscope and sequence, curriculum, and assessments in collaboration with CPSPE Leadership Team.
* Convene monthly CPS PE Leadership Teammeetings to guide and support Physical Education initiatives.
* Develop and provide professional developmenton best practices for all K-12 PE teachers.
* Will seek out and apply for grants forPhysical Education
* Provide outreach, guidance and support toschools in implementing Physical Education curriculum and assessment.
* Provide technical assistance to schools fordevelopment and implementation of best practices in Physical Education.
* Cultivate and maintain relationships withorganizations providing health and wellness services in Chicago PublicSchools.
* Assist with development, implementation, andenforcement of policies that promote student health.
* Collect and analyze school-level datarelated to Physical Education.
* Promote and conduct outreach to communitystakeholders, parents and other interested groups.
* Assist with development and implementationof internal and external Physical Education communication strategies.
* Collect and report information related togrant funding, including but not limited to developing a PhysicalEducation best practices guide for school administrators and parents.
* Research and document policies of bestpractices and guidance.
* Prepare background documents, fact sheets,and other communication materials related to Physical Education.
* Other duties as assigned.

In order to be successful and achieve theabove responsibilities, the Physical Education Specialist must possess thefollowing qualifications:

Type ofEducation Required: Graduationfrom an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's and Master's degree required (B.S.,B.A., M.S., M.A.).

Type ofExperience and Number of Years: A minimumof five years of Physical Education teaching experience. Curriculum and assessmentwriting experience required. Leadership and development experience preferred.Grant writing experience preferred. Must be proficient with the use ofcomputers and software, including but not limited to Microsoft Excel, Word,Power Point, Outlook, and Access.

* Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals,professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulation.
* Possess integrity and tact when dealing with confidential informationand sensitive situations.
* Demonstrated skills in trend analysis to proactively identify issuesand make sound recommendations.

Additional Requirements:

* This position requires a Chicago residency within six months ofaccepting the position.
