Assistant Transportation Director

Cheney Public Schools is accepting applications for an Assistant Transportation Director. Year-round position. Background check required.

General Information:

Cheney School District encompasses the towns of Cheney and Airway Heights, an expansive rural area, and a developing industrial and residential area on the West Plains. The District covers 380 square miles, serving students in the southwest quadrant of Spokane County with 73 school buses. Cheney is the site of Eastern Washington University, which brings cultural experiences, outstanding speakers, and special events to the area. Spokane, the second largest city in the state, provides residents of Cheney and the surrounding area with a broad range of services. The Assistant Transportation Director is responsible for assisting with all operations of the Transportation Department. When the Transportation Director is absent, the Assistant Transportation Director will assume full responsibility for operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for assisting in establishing all regular bus routes, schedules, and stops.
  • Assist in developing route maps for drivers, schools, programs, and activities as appropriate.
  • Assist in recruiting, hiring, and training of all employees necessary to the Transportation Department.
  • Assist in supervising and evaluating all Transportation Department staff.
  • Assess driving skills and performance of new and substitute bus drivers.
  • Design and deliver school bus driver training programs, Type I and Type II which meet and/or exceed established standards to insure driver competency.
  • Aid in resolving and/or preventing student misconduct and unsafe conditions while utilizing District transportation; work closely with principals and assistant principals at each school site to resolve student misconduct issues and parental concerns.
  • Assist in checking roads in inclement weather or other emergency conditions.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
