Human Resources HR GENERALIST CHELCO seeks HR Generalist to support payroll & benefit functions & employees HR needs.

HR Generalist

CHELCO, a respected member-owned electric utility in DeFuniak Springs, FL seeks a HR Generalist to support our employees’ HR needs,  perform benefits administration, and payroll functions. Though not all inclusive, responsibilities include the following:

  • Administers weekly payroll for all full time employees.
  • Administers all employee benefit programs such as medical, dental and vision plans, life insurance plans, disability plans, flexible spending account plans and retirement plans.
  • Processes all HRIS benefit entries (new hire elections, terminations, qualifying life event changes and open enrollment) to ensure accurate record keeping and proper payroll deductions.
  • Assists employees with questions regarding benefits summary plan information.
  • Explains and interprets company insurance programs to employees and dependents.
  • Monitors benefit eligibility and arrears balances for employees on various leave programs (Family Medical Leave, Disability, Leave of Absence, Military Leave, etc...).
  • Ensures compliance with ERISA, COBRA and HIPAA regulations.
  • Updates and maintains accurate HR related files and HR Systems.
  • Assists with other HR responsibilities as required.

A High School diploma or eqv. and at least 6 years HR or payroll exp.; or Associates degree in a directly related field and at least 4 years HR or payroll exp.; or Bachelor’s degree in a directly related field and at least 2 years of HR or payroll exp. PHR/SPHR and/or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP or Certified Employee Benefit Specialist certification(s) preferred.  The desired candidate will have the following qualifications/skills:

  • Strong administrative and organizational skills including timeliness, accuracy, and thoroughness.
  • Strength in analyzing and problem resolution.
  • Knowledge in payroll accounting and Federal and State laws.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to use discretion with confidential information.
  • Must be able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to multi-task.

The normal workweek is Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:30 pm at the CHELCO Headquarters building in DeFuniak Springs. With the exception of STD/LTD/FMLA & approved time off, attendance at a designated worksite location is considered essential.
