Chatham County Schools

Chatham County has not operated a Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) landfill since October 1993. All solid waste that is not recycled is hauled to one of two privately owned transfer stations in Siler City or Sanford where we pay a tipping fee to dispose of it (currently $45.34/ton). From there it is currently hauled to a privately owned landfill in Sampson County. Chatham County has a system of 12 staffed collection centers for the collection of household garbage and recyclables.
