Job Description

About Operation Access:
Operation Access(OA), founded in 1993, grew out of the recognition that many San Francisco residents did not have access to elective surgical or specialty care because they had no insurance and limited financial means. Using foreign medical volunteer programs as a model, Bill Schecter, MD, Doug Grey, MD, and Paul Hofmann, DrPH, set out to build OA as a domestic volunteer alternative. OA enables Bay Area healthcare providers to donate vital surgical and specialty care to people in need. We envision health care equity for people facing barriers to care. Over the years, our partnership with health care providers has grown to include more than 1500 volunteer medical professionals, 40 hospitals and ambulatory care centers, and 20 medical groups that provide outpatient surgical procedures and diagnostic screenings to patients referred from more than 80 community clinics.

Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, train, and lead new volunteers, particularly specialized/skilled volunteers
  • Develop and implement a volunteer program and community service projects for the nonprofit
  • Coordinate community outreach strategies for volunteer recruitment that involves social media outreach, creating and distributing marketing and communication materials, etc.
  • Build business partnerships that provide support for the nonprofit, including fundraising
  • Track volunteer program and infrastructure development at the nonprofit
  • Serve side-by-side with volunteers to provide guidance, to better understand the clients’ needs, and to improve the volunteer experience
  • Participate in all program-required trainings and development opportunities, including orientation, regular meetings with your local VIP team, and in-person and online trainings
