New RN Grad Residency Program Starts July 2012

Cedars-Sinai has launched an exciting, challenging and rewarding program that offers hands-on and clinical experience as we equip you to fulfill your role as a Registered Nurse in our Graduate Nurse Residency Program. Cedars-Sinai is proud to offer the new graduate nurse this opportunity, and we re committed to providing you with the educational background and support a new graduate needs to be successful. You ll receive stimulating exposure to various clinical experiences on medical and surgical units. Using technology, the program will expand the nurses opportunities for hands-on clinical practice, allowing you to gain valuable clinical experience while enhancing your decision-making and critical thinking skills. Strong peer support, education opportunities, and one-to-one collaboration with an experienced preceptor will help build a foundation of nursing excellence.

Our Program Guidelines

The Graduate Nurse Residency Program is a full-time employment opportunity that requires your two-year commitment with a signed, written contractual agreement. The Graduate Nurse Residency Program consists of 14 weeks of preceptored and didactic training in a medical/surgical unit, followed by placement to permanent assignments in medical/surgical nursing thereafter.

As a member of the Program, the new Graduate Nurse will complete two weeks of general patient care, computer orientation, and residency skills training sessions, and then will begin 12 weeks of clinical experience. The new Graduate Nurse will work the same schedule as their Preceptor, with efforts made to accommodate their desired shift as much as possible.

The didactic portion of the program consists of eight 8-hour monthly continuing education sessions. The first three sessions are given during the second week of orientation prior to commencing clinical placement.

The Graduate Nurse will be eligible to apply for transfer to specialty internships or other divisions after completion of the residency program and one year of experience in their residency unit thereafter.

If you are selected for an interview, you will be required to bring a portfolio with you containing
your resume, academic transcripts, two letters of recommendation, a description of any volunteer service, and a written essay as to why you selected nursing as a profession.



Qualification Requirements/Preferences:
Education Certifications/Licensure Experience Physical Abilities
Program Requirements (to be considered):

BSN or MSN preferred
Graduate of an accredited nursing school
Graduation within one year of the start of the Residency Program preferred
Minimum 3.5 Grade Point Average (GPA) in Nursing preferred
Valid California Registered Nurse license
BLS certification through the American Heart Association

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (physical abilities essential to perform the job):
Frequent standing, walking and pushing/pulling of patients utilizing transportation equipment including
wheelchairs and gurneys
Frequent bending, stretching and twisting to assist patient(s) from/to bed, wheelchair, gurney, operating tables and scanning equipment
Responsiveness to auditory alarms and communication devices including telephones, beepers, fire alarms, and mechanical equipment sounds
Sufficient strength and mobility to access equipment and assist patient and other customers
Able to perform various sensory requirements such as vision, speech, smell, touch, manual dexterity, fine motor skills, and hearing in order to successfully perform duties of this position
Able to exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently

Exposure to constant noise levels throughout the department and Medical Center
Exposure to radiation and magnetic fields
Exposure to blood-borne pathogens and potentially hazardous materials, solutions or compounds
