Job Description

Summary

The Software Engineer Intern assists the Development team with tasks related to testing including writing test plans, software code, and testing scripts. This individual is actively involved in all phases of the software development life cycle and must communicate proactively and effectively with team members on issues.

This position is responsible for translating business and user requirements into system tests; executing manual Functional tests; maintaining system test strategies; executing and programming software tests; and conducting technical discussions with internal development partners to understand their designs and intended output.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Software Engineer Intern include the following. This position has no management responsibilities. The candidate may be required to perform other related duties as assigned.

* Individual may be given tasks/requirements in all areas of software development and support based upon project and scheduling requirements.
* Assignments will be defined specifically with the intention of allowing the individual to develop independent software engineering skills in the area of software maintenance and new development.
* Where possible, assignments will become more complex as the individual demonstrates the ability to accept increasingly complex tasks.
* Tools Used: PHP, Javascript, JQuery, XCode (iOS) Android OS, C/C++, Cloud/VM, VB Net, C#, Visual Basic, Windows, Oracle, Perl, Linux, PHP.
* Actively participate in product planning and other requirements gathering
* Participate in special or customer-specific projects as assigned
* Research and develop an understanding of the marketing requirements for the product, including how the product is actually used by CBORD customers

Education/Experience

Education

* Must be actively enrolled in a Bachelor's Degree program in one of the following disciplines: Software Engineering or Engineering, Computer Science, or a Business Major with a Technical Minor.

Experience

* Less than 18 months of experience in development, research, and product testing

Competencies

* Basic communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a team
* Ability to work from own initiative, learn and adapt quickly, and be highly productive
* Ability to create multiple "what-if" scenarios putting yourself in customer's shoes and apply all the scenarios in the workflow of the application
* Proven knowledge of the software development life cycle and solid understanding of quality software
* Basic programing and scripting skills, preferably in an object oriented programming language
* Ability to apply basic test strategy knowledge and methodologies to design, develop, and execute general software tests
* Analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects under general supervision
* Awareness of business issues as they impact overall project plans

* General office environment; no special physical requirements required
