Job Summary
Assists in the day-to-day management of the department. Maintains appropriate staffing levels and equipment/supplies for all shifts. Understands all respiratory care modalities and makes decisions and recommendations to physicians pertaining to respiratory care modalities. Functions as a resource for the department leaders and all respiratory care team members.

Essential Functions
  • Focuses on clinical expertise supported by strong leadership abilities, patient advocacy, and global understanding of System missions and goals.
  • Participates in department performance improvement activities with focus on patient safety and excellence in customer service.
  • Serves as a role model and clinical resource for team members. Assists in retention of current and new team members.
  • Plans and presents educational programs, serves on department/facility based committees, and completes 24 hours of volunteer community service annually.
Physical Requirements
Work requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling. Must be able to lift and support the weight of 75 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies.

Education, Experience and Certifications
Graduate of an AMA-approved school of Respiratory Care and is credentialed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board for Respiratory Care required. Current license to practice as a respiratory care practitioner or a current provisional license for the state of North Carolina required. BLS, ACLS, PALS and NRP certification required. 4 years clinical experience as a respiratory therapist preferred.
