Job Description

 

The position will work Monday through Friday with occasional Saturday requirements. Summer hours are 6:00 am to 2:30 pm. Regular hours will be 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.

Candidate must have transportation available when working 6:00 am to 2:30 pm as city buses are not available at that time.


 

The Laundry Control Operator is responsible for loading, operating and monitoring power laundry equipment in the processing washing and drying of  textile products. The Laundry Control Operator will control the operation of the tunnel washers and dryers. The Laundry Control Operator is also expected to support Carilion's hallmarks of service excellence and quality for all job responsibilities.   

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Loads and operates computerized washing, extracting, drying equipment and automated overhead rail system. Monitors this equipment and informs supervisor  or maintenance of any equipment malfunctions and or of any other production problems.  Processes specialty items per procedure and as necessary.
  2. Ensures that proper production levels are maintained through the equipment via proper product scheduling and prompt clearing of faults.
  3. Monitors automatic system to make sure loads do not get mixed and wet loads are promptly identified and corrected.
  4. Keeps individual customer products separate while insuring the highest workflow. Maintains established quantity and quality standards.
  5. Responsible for clearing minor faults on washing, drying and automated rail systems. Reports major faults to laundry maintenance.
  6. Monitors chemical supplies on a routine basis.
  7. Cleans dryers of lint routinely, and assists in the cleaning of other equipment and areas as needed.
  8. Accurately completes production reporting paper work at end of shift. May use calculator for basic arithmetic.

  

Working Conditions – Gloves and gowns required for handling soiled linen. Possible lifting linen from cart; pushing and pulling loaded linen carts routinely under 500 lbs; but could exceed 1,000. Walking and prolonged standing; possible exposure to infectious materials and foreign objects/waste through soiled linens. Possible exposure to loud noise and high temperatures. Manually mixes chemicals for dye program. Must be able to process linen at established standards.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications Required

Education:  A minimum of 2 years post High school education or equivalent work experience in a related field.
 
Experience: Two years experience required with the operation of computer controlled production equipment. Previous laundry expereince is a plus.
Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Certified Washroom Technician designation from ALM preferred within one year of employment.
Other Minimum Qualifications:  Good organizational skills, analytical, dependable, detail oriented, interpersonal skills and understanding of English language (both written and oral). Must possess computer skills. Needs to be able to use Microsoft Word, and Excel.  Ability to work independently or as part of a team. Ability to carry out assigned tasks unsupervised.
