Job Description

Summary of Responsibilities:

Under the general supervision of the Director of Finance, the Purchasing Agent purchases supplies, equipment and services at the most favorable prices consistent with quality, delivery and service.

Details of Education and Skills:

Associate's degree with 2 to 5 years purchasing experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience; Must have experience with purchasing, contracts and vendor relations, preferably in a healthcare setting; Strong computer skills, analytical ability and good judgement; Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team of staff at various skill and professional levels; Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP), Certified Professional Purchasing Manager (CPPM), or Certified Contract Negotiator (CNN) designation(s) preferable but not required.


Negotiate with vendors for the purchase of materials, supplies, equipment and services in a cost-effective, efficient manner. Analyze price proposals, financial reports, and other data and information to determine reasonable prices. Act as a resource for vendor and contract information. Monitor shipments to ensure that products come in on time and in good condition. Performs duties promptly and efficiently and complies with Health System and departmental policies. In the event of problems, trace shipments and follow up on undelivered goods. Analyze, and Monitor inventory levels at all sites. Identify and propose opportunities for cost savings in the areas of supply cost and utilization. Standardize products as appropriate.
