We are recruiting for an experienced Counsel to join our Legal team, a group of highly experienced lawyers with deep securities and investment advisory experience.  This is an opportunity to join a prestigious legal department at one of the largest asset managers in the world.  Capital Group is an evolving business in a highly regulated environment; this team is involved in guiding decisions that will make a major impact on the business.  The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting this effort.  The Legal team is comprised of 30 attorneys, with 24 in the US. It is a highly collaborative group, and the candidate will work closely with a variety of senior attorneys across the team as well as associates from various business areas.  The candidate will support legal and compliance efforts through research, writing, project management and related tasks.  We are seeking an attorney who is a self-starter to join our team and be energized by the opportunity to work on a myriad of projects and initiatives across Capital.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide day to day legal support for multiple business areas (e.g., portfolio management, trading, and investment operations)
  • Engage in review and launch of new business offerings and other initiatives; Support securities transactions, including review and negotiation of transaction documents
  • Prepare and review prospectuses
  • Help resolve issues relating to investment guidelines, pricing and trading
  • Review new regulatory initiatives and assist with development of business processes in response

Qualifications:

  • At least 3-5 years of experience at a top ranked law firm or in-house with a financial services or investment management firm
  • Experience with federal securities laws
  • Exceptional academic credentials
  • JD degree with strong academic background; California bar admission or willingness to obtain
  • Excellent oral and written communication, analytical, organizational and strategic thinking skills
  • Understanding of how to balance legal risks with business objectives and successfully get projects completed
