Job Description


As a Respiratory Therapist, you will be responsible for providing general and specialized respiratory care services to residents.

* In accordance with physician orders, performs various respiratory care procedures such as medicated aerosol therapy, bronchial hygiene, oxygen administration, tracheostomy changes, and lung hyperinflation.
* Performs set-up, monitoring and maintenance procedures related to the care of residents using mechanical ventilator support.
* Performs various diagnostic procedures such as arterial puncture, bedside ventilator assessments, pulse oximetry, and expiratory gas monitoring.
* Draws blood for arterial blood gas samples
* Interacts with medical staff and processes verbal orders appropriately
* Performs cleaning, preventative maintenance, operational verification and set-up of respiratory care equipment.
* Records respiratory care interventions in the clinical record in accordance with established documentation standards.
* As necessary to enhance the quality of care and / or address concerns, maintains open communication with physicians, residents, families and other members of the health care team
* Maintains regular communication with Respiratory Therapy Director regarding clinical status of residents receiving respiratory care services, non-routine events, physician / resident / family concerns, etc.
* Completes additional facility-specific ongoing tasks and projects as assigned by immediate supervisor.


* Graduate of AMA JRCTRE-approved respiratory care educational program
* Current CPR certification\
* 1 year of clinical experience preferred but new grads considered.
* NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist or Certified Respiratory Therapy Technician and Virginia certification as Certified Respiratory Therapy practitioner. (Practitioners have one year to meet Virginia certification requirements.)
