FINANCIAL REPORTING ACCOUNTANT

Business Financial Services

Salary Range: $4,899 - $9,179

Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Exempt Classification.

Essential Functions: Under the general direction of the Financial and Tax Reporting Manager, the Financial Reporting Accountant will be responsible for independently executing all accounting functions associated with financial aid and performing a full range of tax related duties. Financial aid related responsibilities include submission of annual FISAP report to the US Department of Education, performance of cash flow analysis and reconciliations for federal and state financial aid funds, preparation of journal entries to record cash flow transaction, and financial statements for submission to funding agencies. The Financial Reporting Accountant will participate in the month-end/year-end closing process, review fiscal documents for completeness and accuracy and correspond and interact with the campus community, as well as state and federal agencies. Tax related responsibilities include tax analysis, planning and compliance with regard to the federal and state Nonresident Alien (NRA) withholding, sales tax filing, Form 990 & 990-T filing for auxiliaries and annual submission of Unrelated Business Income Tax (UBIT) report to the Chancellor's Office. In addition, the Financial Reporting Accountant will be responsible for interviewing foreign national employees, vendors and scholarship recipients to determine a tax residency status and applicability of a treaty benefit, and performing a review of IC Independent Contractor requests to determine the correct worker classification.

Required Qualifications & Experience: Must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or related field. Equivalent to 5 years of professional accounting experience. Must have the ability to independently interpret applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures, and apply accounting theory and practices based on generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Must have the ability to prepare reconciliations and to investigate and resolve errors, discrepancies, make correcting entries. Must possess advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, particularly MS Excel. Ability and/or interest in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment.

Desired Qualifications: PeopleSoft Financials (Student Financials and GL Modules) and Higher Education experience, including basic knowledge of financial aid and grant guidelines. Two years of prior tax experience in a higher education or not-for-profit environment. Possess superb verbal, written, and interpersonal skills and have outstanding persuasion and presentation skills; be an articulate communicator and good listener and demonstrate a style that facilitates the sharing of knowledge.
