THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Political Science offers a B.A. degree that provides both a strong background in social science and excellent professional preparation for students. The major offers three distinct paths to completion, the traditional major and options in pre-law and public affairs and administration. The two options offer interdisciplinary pre-professional curricula. The department is strong in every aspect of American government (national, state and local institutions, public policy, public law, public administration and ethnic/minority politics), as well as Comparative Politics and International Relations.

DUTIES OF THE POSITION: The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in Comparative Politics, Comparative Law, International Relations, and other coursework as assigned. In addition to teaching, all faculty have advising responsibilities, assist the department with administrative and/or committee work, and are expected to assume campus-wide committee responsibilities. Please note that teaching assignments at California State University, East Bay include courses at the Hayward, Concord and Online campuses.

RANK AND SALARY: Assistant Professor. Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience. Subject to budgetary authorization.

DATE OF APPOINTMENT: Fall Semester, 2018.

QUALIFICATIONS

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must have an earned Ph.D. in Political Science at the effective date of the appointment.

Candidates with teaching experience at the university level are preferred. Candidates with experience teaching in various formats (in-person, hybrid and fully online classes), as well as evidence of teaching effectiveness, are preferred.

Preferred candidates would include those:

With research agendas focused on Comparative Politics and any of the following topics - refugees, migration, or closely-related topics,

With a record of scholarly activity in the above mentioned subfield and topics, and

Who demonstrate knowledge of multiple regions such as Europe and Latin America

Strong preference for candidates with awareness of issues of diversity and social justice, as well as with innovative pedagogy for students from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds.

Candidates should demonstrate experience in teaching, mentoring, research, or community service that has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate a record of scholarly activity.
