CACI has an immediate opportunity for a Solaris Engineer to provide cutting edge services within the Intelligence Community.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The senior Solaris administrator/engineer provides operations and maintenance support within a large Development and Production Unix/Solaris Enterprise server environment. Operating systems include Solaris 10 and Solaris 11. Familiarity with supporting systems implementing Oracle Database platforms on Solaris is preferred.As a Subject Matter Expert Unix/Solaris administrator, the candidate will mentor junior team members, provide technical guidance to other administrators, and perform technical analysis and provide Team Lead and Government management with integration/engineering recommendations when required.
Additional duties and responsibilities include: Solaris systems administration, implementing baseline changes, responding to change requests, problem/incident resolution, and performing enterprise level assessments and evaluations and analysis for all supported servers. The candidate will be responsible for providing support during core hours and after-hours/on-call support as necessary. The server administrator/engineer is also responsible for capacity planning, managing server hardware infrastructure, performing daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly maintenance activities, server monitoring, and creating software scripts/tool automation as required. Further, providing second level problem identification, diagnosis and resolution of problems, escalating and communicating status to Sponsor management and internal customers of priority and high-visibility issues.
Tasks: Server Administrator/Engineer executes tasks in the following areas: change request, trouble ticket, routine operation and maintenance, and server build. Completing Change Requests Implementing baseline changes under tech lead oversight Respond to assigned change requests that are submitted by internal and external customers.
Attending TEMs to discuss and agree upon MOAs ensure MOA is within scope of server team work Ensuring build procedure is feasible, clear, and concise. Resolving Trouble Tickets
Providing operational pager duty support Performing technical evaluations, analysis, and troubleshooting for all supported servers in response to Help Desk Tickets which includes but not limited the following activities: Server failures, full system outage. Performing server checklist Restoring file and data information Performing operating system software updates/upgradesCreating request for service support from internal/external service providers Monitoring/supporting server backupsCoordinating server installations Transitioning servers Assessing server loads and work with tech lead on developing tuning recommendations Requesting hardware replacements Assisting in server maintenance and special projects, during extended work hours Communicating outage/degradation of server to management Understanding and implementing established technical and workflow procedures Performing server and storage capacity planning for complex and critical systems. Recommending and implementing process and tool improvements to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization's change management and configuration management processes and systems. Planning for transition of the development and/or production environment to new technology. Recommend and plan server recapitalization. Perform server performance tuning. Baselines and forecasts server performance data and tunes server hardware and software configurations. Utilize system software to monitor the performance of system files; manages system data to maintain performance efficiencies. Study system requirements to determine proper server installation methods and procedures. May provide 24x7 operational support. Answer users' inquiries regarding server performance and operation related to problem resolution. Reading trade magazines and technical manuals, or attending conferences and seminars to maintain knowledge of hardware and software. Conferring with staff, users, and management to establish requirements for new systems or modifications. Conducting server diagnostics to investigate and resolve problems and to provide technical assistance and support. Create and maintain monitor definitions and rules based upon requirements from Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Monitoring and conducting advanced analysis of output and performance of management of systems according to prescribed standards. Planning and testing capacity requirements. Ensuring that services are provided with sufficient capacity to meet the business requirements. Developing training materials and procedures, or train users in the proper use of server administration. Referring major hardware or software problems or defective products to vendors or technicians for service. Preparing evaluations of software or hardware, and recommend improvements or upgrades. Other duties as assigned.
Position requires the ability to obtain/maintain a Top Secret / SCI with Polygraph US government security clearance.
The standard work hours for the position are as follows: 8 hour day shift, including the core hours of 9 AM to 3 PM, and after hours on-call support when required.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Typically requires bachelor's degree or equivalent, and 7-9 years of related experience.
