Job Description

Burns & McDonnell's office in Houston, TX, is looking for a Staff Geotechnical Engineer to join our team of employee owners. This role requires an experienced and competent individual capable of successfully solving difficult problems that require the use of engineering judgment and the adaptation and modification of standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria. Job responsibilities of a Staff level Geotechnical Engineer will include, but are not limited to, the following tasks:

* Performing geotechnical engineering analyses, design and evaluation related to shallow and deep foundation systems, settlement analyses, slope stability evaluations, retaining structures, consideration of seismic effects, and earthwork, in support of company Global Practice and Regional Office projects. Requires a strong background in conventional geotechnical engineering practices and construction practices in specialty foundation techniques.
* Preparation and review of engineering design calculations, reports, specifications and construction documents, contracts and proposals, and other technical documents as needed, in coordination with other Geotechnical Department staff and project team members.
* Development of work scopes, subsurface exploration oversight, and management of site investigation subcontracts.
* Field assignments associated with site investigation activities and in support of foundation and earthwork construction activities.

The selected candidate will perform assignments under the supervision of senior level geotechnical engineers. Field assignment time will be dependent upon project requirements.

This position requires 5 to 7 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, consulting, design, and construction. Must have a Bachelor's degree in civil or geological engineering and a Master's degree in geotechnical engineering from an ABET accredited college or university. Strong analytical, problem-solving and multi-tasking skills are required. Experience in using Ensoft and FAD tools programs, as well as slope stability evaluation software, and familiarity with other analytical techniques, is required. Must have excellent English language written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently or with a team. Must be registered as a PE (Professional Engineer) in the jurisdiction where employed, or be registered as an EI (Engineering Intern) and successfully complete the PE examination within two years of the start of employment.
