Job Description

This is a part time position in addition to normal substation design engineering duties. This position is responsible for the managerial direction and leadership of Assistant level engineers within the Substation Department of the T&D Global Practice in Chicago. Specific areas of responsibility include the following, with other duties as assigned by substation department management and senior management:

* Advocating for safety within the department.
* Recruit, develop, train and retain intern and assistant level engineers.
* Coordinate team and mentor assignments of engineers with substation department managers, project managers and project engineers for the efficient, cost-effective utilization of staff.
* Review employee performance and conduct development meetings (90 day and annual performance appraisals, mid-year reviews, coaching sessions, etc.).
* Identify training needs for engineers and support/develop training programs for the department. Collaborate with other departments on shared training.
* Provide overall leadership to the team through strong communication, empowering of others, and servant leadership.
* Responsible for fostering a healthy and vibrant employee-owner culture within the team through the leverage of sound team-building practices, the promotion and administration of effective conflict resolution, the promotion of ownership mentality, a healthy work-life balance, and community engagement.
* Assisting the Substation Department Management team to develop business initiatives to improve profitability and/or efficiencies.
* Advancing and developing Department tools and work flows to increase efficiency of designs, specification development, and project execution.
* Providing input into areas of concern and direction to enhance achievement of project schedules, productivity goals, budgets, and quality.
* Assisting with and leading Substation related proposals.
* Interpret policies, purposes, and goals of organization to staff.
* Approve time cards and watch over billable time.
* Demonstrate creativity, foresight and mature judgment to anticipate and solve complex problems.
* Other duties as assigned.
* Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited program.
* Minimum 5 years professional experience.
* High voltage substation design experience.
* Strong preference for the following:

o Experience interviewing and recruiting with Burns & McDonnell.

o Excellent oral and written communication skills.

o Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees and management.

o Experience providing performance feedback for project team members.

o Ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead, and manage change.

o Professional Engineering license.

o History of high performance as demonstrated and documented in the Burns & McDonnell performance management system.
