Job Description

SUMMARY The Department of Pharmacy has the responsibility for the implementation and coordination of drug control in the process of providing pharmaceutical care for patients of all ages within the Medical Center.# The Pharmacy Intern works to compound and dispense drugs and medicines according to prescriptions authorized by physicians and under the direct supervision of a Staff Pharmacist.# Work is assigned with the intent of increasing the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to become a competent Pharmacist. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values. # FIRST YEAR INTERN *Under the guidance and supervision of a Staff Pharmacist, enters medication orders for patients on the computer creating a medication record; processes and dispenses assigned orders in an accurate and timely manner. *Identifies potential and actual drug related problems by reviewing the physician orders, patient medication history, allergies, condition and alerts; works cooperatively with other health professionals to prevent and/or resolve any issues. *Consistently develops and applies the clinical practice skills necessary to provide optimal pharmaceutical care services to patients. *Fills and exchanges medication trays to assure adequate pharmaceutical supplies are readily available. *Documents and verifies patient charges to ensure accuracy and completeness. *Follows all departmental and organizational policies, procedures and processes as communicated and documented. # SECOND YEAR INTERN *Performs all the job functions of a First Year Intern plus accurately prepares IV admixtures under the guidance and supervision of a Staff Pharmacist. *Provides inventory support and works with inventory personnel to ensure an adequate supply of medications to meet patient needs. # THIRD YEAR INTERN *Performs all the job functions of a Second Year Intern plus performs pharmacokinetic dosage calculations and evaluations as determined by the therapeutic needs of the patient under the guidance and supervision of a Staff Pharmacist. # FOURTH YEAR INTERN *Performs all the job functions of a Third Year Intern plus performs discharge medication teaching for patients receiving discharge medications from the Pharmacy or upon request under the guidance and supervision of a Staff Pharmacist. *Participates in quality assessment and quality improvement programs as assigned. # QUALIFICATIONS: # Bachelor#s degree in Pharmacy from a college or university.# Continued enrollment in a pharmacy program with intent to graduate with a Doctorate of Pharmacy Degree (PharmD).

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from a college or university. Continued enrollment in a pharmacy program with intent to graduate with a Doctorate of Pharmacy Degree (PharmD).
