OverviewPart-Time Software Test Engineer / Intern - FM

The Fluorescence Microscopy (FM) group of the Nano Surfaces Business of Bruker Corporation in Middleton, WI is looking for a part-time software tester / intern to improve the robustness and ease-of-use of its retail software. FM develops world class products for a wide variety of microscopy applications including Neuroscience (multi-photon laser scanning microscopy) and Cell Biology (confocal microscopy). The software test intern will work closely with the software development and applications teams to ensure delivery of a fully functional and multi-faceted package. Perform detailed and rigorous testing of fluorescence microscope digital imaging software and firmware, including: Fixes to previously reported issues; Common workflow procedures; Failure mode analysis and prioritizationTechnical reporting of issues discovered detailing necessary equipment and step-by-step procedures for reproductionCommunication with software development team and application staff to understand intended usage and customer needsDedicate 15-20 hours/week with a commitment for more than 6 months


* 90% High level software testing and reporting
* 10% Application and Development support


* Other duties as assigned



Work Environment for software testing is completed in an office environment or a in test lab which may be darkened. Products tested may include lasers (safety training provided).


* Proven ability for thoroughness with a systematic approach to problem solving
* Proven ability to understand complex systems with various modes of operation
* Proficiency in software feature testing
* Ability to characterize and trace interactions between software and hardware
* Good written communication skills / technical reporting
* Candidate must be detail-oriented and should enjoy identifying and reproducing problems
* Preferred knowledge of microscopy and electrical stimulus/recording.


* Bachelors or Masters (preferred) candidate in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or a Life Science
