Job Description

Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), an internationally recognized presenter of contemporary performing arts and cinema, is looking for a Communications Intern (Fall-Spring).

The Communications group at BAM is looking for a Communications Intern to begin in September 2019, with an end date in May 2020. This internship would be focused on supporting the Communications and Publicity team as it executes print and digital campaigns for BAMs theater, music, film, visual art, and many other offerings.

Internship Duration: September through May, shifts are flexible with a maximum of 20 hours per week.


* To provide general administrative support to the publicity department and ensure that the department is running in an efficient manner
* Assist publicists in research for press releases
* Maintain press clip files (paste-up, file press, disseminate clips via BAM in the News)
* Maintain the press database (Salesforce)
* Compile press kits
* Assist publicists at events when necessary
* Compile the press binder of the previous season
* Research and add to press database
* Ticketing at some mainstage shows
* Resize production photos and upload to Box.net and website as needed


* Available at least 4 days a week, including Friday, for a total of 20 hours a week
* Have a college degree or be a senior in a college
* Strong writing and verbal skills
* Details oriented
* Knowledge in performing arts
* Knowledge in New York media
* Proficiency in MS Office and Photoshop
* Strong research skills
* Knowledge in Tessitura a plus
* Liberal arts major or arts background a plus
