We are currently looking to recruit a Bid Engineer for our main site in Derby, UK.


Working within the bids engineering team as a Bid Engineer, the primary purpose of your role is to supply robust engineering inputs on each bid. The objective of the role is focused on the development of innovative and accurate maintenance cost data and train performance regime risk calculations; so ensuring competitive bid inputs are provided.

This role is critical to ensuring that Bombardier Transportation products are competitive, whilst meeting the highest standards of safety, reliability and availability, and achievement of Services UK order intake and future shareholder return.

Your Tasks

- You will be using standard tools and processes to develop innovative and accurate maintenance costs that are aligned with our maintenance project experience in a timely fashion for each bid.

- You will develop train performance risk calculations that are aligned with our maintenance project experience in a timely fashion for each bid

- You will drive and/or support initiatives to improve the quality of the direct whole life labour and material maintenance cost data associated with each bid.

- You will take ownership of the technical content on each bid and take an active role in attaining functional approval through the governance process

- You will continuously benchmark existing maintenance cost and train performance so that comparisons can be made to all bids and robust data is used on future bids

- You will take ownership and manage the Reliability Availability Manteinability and Lifecyle Cost (RAM/LCC) tools, improve their ease of use, and the reliability and consistency of data output in a format acceptable to all relevant stakeholders

- There is also potential for the role to include involvement in other aspects of RAM/LCC Engineering, such as Design for Reliability, Design for Maintenance, Design for Service Optimisation, FRACAS and Maintenance Optimisation


- You possess a Bachelor Degree or equivalent studies in Engineering.

- You have hands-on experience in transportation maintenance, not necessarily in the rail industry and you possess good knowledge of RAM/LCC.

- You have the ability to identify and mitigate risks in the design phase and are able to efficiently work with the Engineering teams to solve problems and influence decisions taken.

- You possess very good project and time management skills and overall strong organizational abilities.

- You demonstrate excellent Microsoft Office skills, especially with MS Excel and MS Access.

- You are determined and creative, with a mind set on solving problems and building relations.

- You are open to demonstrate lessons learnt and analyze how they influence the day-to-day tasks.

- You have a strong work ethic and are proficient in English.

Bid management is a particularly pressurised environment due to a combination of the immovable timescales and the consequences of success or failure. Subsequently, this role requires a person who is self-motivated, with a resilient character and who enjoys a challange.
