Rail Control Solutions (RCS) is Bombardier Transportation's signaling division. As a Systems Assurance Engineer you are responsible for providing assurance that the signaling system meets its reliability, availability, maintainability and safety (RAMS) requirements. You will plan and perform hazard analysis, review design and test documentation, and provide an independent opinion on the suitability of the signaling system to satisfy its requirements. You will work with the project team to ensure compliance with internal processes and industry standards as well as provide expert guidance for a successful safety assessment.

In your role you will:

- Develop the project Safety Plan by planning, coordinating, and executing all tasks required to achieve the corresponding project safety milestones, including safety analyses, reviews, audits, and the collection of evidence required to build the project Safety Case;
- Develop the project RAM Plan planning, coordinating, and executing all tasks required to achieve the corresponding project RAM milestones, including calculations, availability analysis, maintainability analysis, reviews, audits, and the collection of data to facilitate RAM demonstration;
- Identify system / subsystem hazards, perform hazard analysis, causal analysis, SIL (Safety Integrity Level) allocation. Apportion a THR (Tolerable Hazard Rate) to each hazard;
- Participate as an integral member of the project design & development team assisting engineering by using RAM principles to select components, assess the need for redundancy, evaluate accessibility for maintenance, and determine whether the system provides adequate testability features;
- Ensure all hazards are recorded in the hazard log, any non-conformities are addressed, and all hazards are closed out through elimination or risk control/transfer measures;
- Develop a FRACAS program to implement and maintain RAM performance measurement criteria, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and activity tracking in order to visually convey status of system operational performance against established project requirements;
- Participate in the Bid and Proposal (B&P) process by understanding the customer RAMS requirements and developing estimates based on both experience and "lessons learned" from similar projects.


As our ideal candidate:

- You hold a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related discipline;
- You possess at least five (5) years of engineering experience preferably in a safety or RAMS role;
- You demonstrate understanding of safety concepts and procedures within Safety Engineering, good knowledge of the development of safety critical integrated systems, and the entire system development lifecycle;
- You have previous experience with hazard identification and analysis;
- You demonstrate the ability to operate independently while establishing strong working relationships with co-workers and cross-functional teams;
- You possess strong organizational and prioritization skills;
- You demonstrate critical attention to detail and deadlines, and are self-motivated;
- You possess the ability to adapt well to change in direction and priorities in a project and deadline-oriented environment;
- You demonstrate strong written and verbal English communication skills.

Additional information: The person in this position must be able to travel domestically or internationally as required for projects (approximately 10-15%).
