For our location based in Hennigsdorf, near Berlin, in Germany, we are currently looking to recruit a:

Patent Professional (m/f)

Purpose of the job:

As a Patent Professional, you will mainly have to manage Bombardier Transportation's patent portfolio. This includes the preparation, assessment, registration, defence and enforcement of patents, utility models and industrial designs.
Furthermore, you are to provide and apply tools and processes to mitigate risks of third party IPR infringement. You will provide legal opinion for various purposes (infringement risk analysis, validity of a third-party patent etc.) and advise management accordingly.

Key Accountabilities:

- Management of (divisional) BT patent portfolio which includes registration, defence, enforcement and maintenance of patents and designs and Secure Freedom to Operate for all new products and technologies, which includes assessment of third party patents and management of conflicting 3rd party patents.
- Surfacing of new innovative solutions, including proactive screening of new R&D projects (including project specific engineering) for new patentable solutions in close cooperation with the respective engineering departments.
- Provide legal opinions, like infringement risk analysis, validity assessment of third party patents etc. and advise BT management accordingly. Propose adequate measures to mitigate identified risks.
- Manage in-house patent prosecution (i.e. draft patent applications, respond to office actions)
- Provide IP training for the various BT functions, especially engineering


If you are a graduate (MSc or PhD) in the fields of mechanical or electrical engineering or physics and preferably qualified as a patent attorney with a minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in a patent department or patent law firm, this might be the role for you.
You should have comprehensive knowledge and skills in the field of Intellectual Property Management (especially German, European and International Patent law), a broad technical knowledge, preferably obtained in the railway business area, and respective insight in engineering processes as well as a business fluent level of both English and German languages.
You will enjoy working in a small and highly engaged team and have a lot of contact with various technical areas and different teams in order to secure BT's Intellectual Property.
