We are look for Service Engineer to be based in Kwazulu - Natal

Your role

1. Ensure compliance to Safety and Quality Assurance and improvements

- Maintains the highest level of safety at execution level

- Implements and enforces HSE requirements on site with the support of HSE team representatives

- Comply with safety requirements according to Bombardier standards and project requirements

- Comply to the OHSACT

- Comply with Transnet High voltage rules and regulations

- Ensure that all quality standards are met and maintained

- Ensure that quality standards of components are met

- Ensure that inherent defects are identified at early stage before the client identifies the defect.

- Ensure Zero outstanding NCR's

- Ensure that team is certified in all areas that need specific certification in order to them to perform the work

2. Effective testing and commissioning and fault finding and repair

- Be the first point of contact for Testing and Commissioning technical matters

- Lead fault finding investigation and analysis

- Lead the testing and commissioning activities

- Develops wiring diagrams, layout drawings and engineering specifications for system or equipment modification

- Diagnoses cause of electrical or mechanical malfunction or failure of operational equipment and recommends preventative and corrective maintenance

- Plans, directs, and records commissioning testing activities, and recommends and initiates modifications or replacement that fails to meet the acceptable quality standards

- Ensure all testing and commission is performed according to agreed specifications and requirements.

- Ensure that the Locomotive are operational at all time

- Ensure that faults are attended to timeously and correct in the shortest duration of time.

- Complete MIR Reports

- Follow depot procedures and instructions with regards to Testing and Commissioning activities

- Monitor reliability of trains and train subsystems on continues basis.

- Lead Corrective and Preventative maintenance activities during warrantee phase.

- Apply electrical and mechanical theory and knowledge to test, repair, maintain and modify vehicles and equipment.

- Advises management regarding customer satisfaction, product performance and suggestions with regard to product enhancement

3. Effective people management

- Instructs, directs and coach technicians in servicing and repairing vehicles to the desired quality standard

- Ensure that team follows Depot Procedures and Instructions

- Ensure that a skilled team is in place to perform testing,

- commissioning and maintenance activities

- Ensure that team is competent, properly inducted and productive

- Ensure that team is certified to perform the work

- Identify and coordinate any training or development needs for the team

Effective reporting and data management

- Ensure that all protocols and certify that work is done according to requirements

- Ensure that all reporting takes place after test are performed.

- Compiles technical reports based on root cause failure analysis

- Ensure that routine testing and type testing documents are completed and filled accordingly

- Control and verify Maintenance Programme within MAXIMO

- Continuous interaction with client and Bombardier Engineering

- Locomotive Configuration - Ensure serialized numbers are logged in MAXIMO

- Ensure that the maintenance management system is always up to date with the testing, commissioning and maintenance activities performed

- Monitor, Validate and Evaluate Works Orders Done Through MAXIMO

- Support the implementation of up to date and improved depot processes and procedures (MAXIMO & Material; MAXIMO work order processes; MAXIMO Business Rules)

Training and development of Transnet staff

- Continuous coaching of technical staff on commissioning instructions

- Continuous coaching of technical staff on VMI instructions

- Continuous coaching of technical staff on fault finding methods

- Support and coaching of trainer and competency assessor regarding technical expertise and training inputs

- Ensure that Transnet maintenance staff are conversant with maintenance activities.


- Degree or equivalent qualification; Electrical/Mechanical/Engineer

- Minimum 3 years railway working experience in similar position

- Strong Commercial acumen and strong interpersonal communication skills required

- Strong problem solving and analytical skills
