Electrical Systems Engineer-TWMA-UKDY01325952

We are always ready to speak to highly skilled and experienced people for our site in Derby, and, we are currently looking to recruit an Electrical Systems Engineer to join our Fleet Engineering team.


Engagement with depot staff, customers and suppliers will be required to develop technical solutions. The role will cover all electrical systems which includes (but not limited to) propulsion, auxiliaries, lighting, safety systems and control and communications.

The candidate will need to be capable of carrying out risk assessments and FMEA analysis for electrical systems.

Key Responsibilities and Challenges:

- Development of high quality, safe reliable and cost effective engineering solutions for BT UK supported in service fleets.

- Providing expert technical support for BT UK supported fleets. Provide -2nd' line support for the resolution of in service issues. Providing technical solutions to safety issues (NIR/USRD) and supporting incident investigations

- Representing BT engineering in meetings and technical discussions with suppliers, fleet staff and the client.

- Checking and approving technical documents, drawings and reports produced by other members of team.

- Lead by example and promote Systems Engineering best practice. Mentor engineers and assist with development plans.


- Master Degree and/or Chartered status (preferred and essential.

- Technical domain experience essential, System Integration experience desirable, System Architectural understanding desirable.

- Experience or sound understanding of defining, structuring and developing a rolling stock concept and design.

- Ability to carry out Root cause analysis and development of appropriate engineering solutions.

- Leadership of Incident investigation. Mitigation and resolution of technical safety issues.

- Experience of developing and applying a range of system engineering process and tools (e.g. DOORS requirements management database).

- Experience of working across many different disciplines, with indirect reports to delivery complaint cost effective solutions technical solutions to schedule and budget.

- Experience of converting the customer's explicit and implicit technical and functional requirements into technical/ functional specifications

- The job will require a high degree of flexibility and necessitate travel to and working at depots as required.

- The ability to manage multiple work streams and manage workload. Maintain individual plan and contribute to team planning activities.

- Excellent communication skills.

- Fluent English.
