Role:

The primary purpose of this role is to provide specialist mass properties services to UK projects, bids and R&D activities such that the product:

- is designed and built to defined mass properties requirements, and;

- is demonstrably compliant with contractual and legal requirements.

The role is to ensure that mass properties are managed throughout the design of the product and to achieve acceptance by the client through technical assessment, working with suppliers, customers and regulatory authorities.

Key Responsibilities and Challenges:

- Undertake estimates/calculations during bid and concept phase. Create, develop & maintain mass properties databases using existing MS Excel templates and/or the BT M3 Tool. Create reports & KPIs. Derive & continuously monitor "limit" mass property values for use in structural, dynamics & performance calculations.

- Establish vehicle mass properties requirements and satisfaction arguments in BT DOORS database. Control distribution of target weights to assure compliance with vehicle requirements. Coordinate mass reduction activities as required to achieve requirements and alignment with BT Platform strategy.

- Organize/chair weight control meetings at project & system level. Attend design reviews. Create & maintain a Weight Management Plan to continuously monitor the status of targets and deliverables. Progress chase deliverables (suppliers' mass reports, FAI weights etc.). Assist in-house preparation of subsystem mass reports. Arrange on-site weighing of major assemblies & vehicles as required.

- Write mass type test specifications. Conduct fitness to test inspections and ballast calculations in support of test programme. Analyze vehicle weighing results. Write mass type test report. Perform Route Availability Calculations.

Qualifications

Qualifications: Degree in Mechanical Engineering; Chartered status (preferred but not essential).

Significant experience and hands on delivery of the design, analysis, development, testing and delivery of engineering solutions that solve complex requirements. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Must be familiar with Microsoft Office & CATIA.

- Knowledge of Visual Basic programming desirable

Computer Skills: Experienced user of standard MS Office applications including Microsoft Word and Excel at an Intermediate/Advanced level.
