We are currently looking to recruit an Project Engineer (m/f) based in Derby, United Kingdom.


The post holder will provide technical leadership of Engineering issues associated with Legacy fleets. This will include successful technical closure of issues associated with the relevant MSA contract as well as resolution of new issues arising from passenger service.

MSA project closure issues may include DDR actions, compliance and acceptance, gate review, contractual and retention issues. Arising service issues may include safety, reliability, operational and maintenance issues. Support for any associated TSA contract may also be required with the post holder responsible for the engineering aspects of Entity in Charge of Maintenance (ECM).

The post holder will be a recognised technical expert with knowledge of the relevant fleet(s). This expertise will be acknowledged both internally, as by our customers and other external stakeholders. The post hold will be required to act as Design Authority.

Where major technical or safety related sues arise, the post hold will act on behalf of the Head of Legacy to ensure timely resolution of safety and reliability concerns. Major safety issues may include NIRs, USRDs or similar.


- Manage the key technical issues for legacy fleet and manage their resolution, in accordance with agreed Quality, cost and delivery timescales. This will include production of plans, KPIs and delivering larger work packages from internal and BCC contributors. Ensure technical issues are prioritised and resources are focused as required;
- Work closely with the wider Engineering and RoQ teams and provide direction for the engineering activities in support of the delivery of cost effective closure of technical issues and reliability growth. Obtain all necessary approvals for the introduction of these important changes. Protect Bombardiers commercial interests and ensure timely recover of retentions, active mitigation of risk and maximization of opportunity.Provide first line technical support of test systems used in the manufacture of safety critical electronic products;
- Provide the creative input to develop innovative solutions to ensure optimum QCD whilst mitigating risk and maximizing opportunity. Ensure best practices are followed. Liaise with all internal and external stakeholders as required. Be recognized as providing technical leadership for the fleet and support platform related developments;
- Ensure that safety issues are addressed in a timely and effective manner.



- Degree Electrical and/or Mechanical Engineering required;
- Chartered status desirable.

Relevant experience required

- Relevant experience post graduate.
- Team leadership / Project Engineering experience, with an ability to manage a diverse work load
- Knowledge of railway engineering. An excellent understanding of the key systems and their integration within rolling stock.
- Good communication skills and an ability to interact with staff at all levels.

- Significant experience and hands on delivery of the design, analysis, development, testing and delivery of engineering solutions that solve complex requirements.
- Must have knowledge and be able to demonstrate an ability to plan and deliver engineering projects. Provide cost and schedule estimates on complicated engineering programs.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the project engineering budget process and be able to generate, monitor and ensure projects comply with agreed costs.
- Be able to demonstrate the ability to use this technical knowledge in the support of other departments (engineering, production, procurement, projects) and the development of less experienced engineering personnel. To manage and liaise closely with specialists engineers, production staff, make decisions and give advice on a day to day basis, in order to ensure delivery on time and to budget.
- Able to manage a wide range of tasks/projects, to ensure that any work undertaken by, or on behalf of Services Engineering, is compliant and safe to operate on the railway infrastructure, is within the timescale agreed and to budget.
- Ability to and maintain the confidence of the Project Manager and Customer as an acknowledged Project Engineer, in the area of Railway Engineering.
- Operate and maintain a safety culture in all project related engineering activities.
- The expertise and competence of the Engineer in this position will define the confidence the customer has in Bombardier Engineering in the UK, to support contracts and execution.
- Strong Project Management, and influencing skills are essential, together with the ability to communicate effectively with senior managers across the spectrum of BT stakeholders.
