Boehringer Ingelheim is currently seeking a talented and innovative Intern to join the non-clinical drug safety (NDS) department located at our Ridgefield, CT facility. As an Intern, your project will directly support the Immunopharmacology Core group within NDS and will include validating and implementing automation for in vitro cytokine measurements. During this internship, you will have the opportunity to be mentored and guided to help develop your knowledge and skills within the immunology and non-clinical drug safety fields. You will also have the potential to interact with other scientists across functions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Performs experiments in close collaboration with supervisor and scientific mentor.
* Designs, conducts and analyzes MSD based in vitro cytokine assessments (cytokine release assays [CRA]).
* Transitions CRA procedural steps from the bench (manual manipulation) to automation using Hamilton's Microlab STAR platform.
* Troubleshoots protocols and methods; provides scientific interpretation of results with guidance.
* Performs all work safely and in compliance with all applicable regulations, SOPs, company policies, safety training and procedures.

Requirements:

* Must be an Undergraduate, Graduate, or Professional Student in good academic standing.
* Must have completed 12 credit hours within a related major and/or other related coursework.
* Overall, cumulative GPA (from last completed quarter) must be at least 3.000 (on 4.0 scale) or better (No rounding up).
* Major must be related to the field of internship.

Desired Experience, Skills and Abilities:

* Experience with enzyme immunoassays: ELISA (MSD platform), CRAs a plus (design and execution of various whole blood and PBMC mono-culture and co-culture formats).
* Experience with PBMC isolation.
* Experience with tissue culture: primary immune cell culturing; aseptic technique.
* Capability of manual assay transfer to automation; Knowledge of Hamilton's Microlab STAR platform a plus.
* Familiarity with Graph Pad Prism, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Powerpoint and Excel) and MSD software.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills; highly organized and efficient record keeping.
* Strong ability to multi-task and willingness to work effectively in highly collaborative and diverse environment.
* Ability and motivation to develop new skills in a short period of time without previous related experience.

Eligibility Requirements:

* Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
* Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)
* Must be 18 years of age or older
