Description:

Boehringer Ingelheim is currently seeking a talented and innovative Intern to join our R&D Biorocess Development & Industrialization department located at our St. Joseph, Missouri facility. As an Intern, you will have the opportunity to participate in activities directly related to different aspects of bioprocess development and industrialization, participate in the optimization and/or implementation of process analytical tools of industrial application, and have exposure to different technology platforms utilized in research and development of veterinary vaccines in the R&D pipeline.

Duties & Responsibilities:

* Participate in the development and optimization of process analytical tools (PAT) for vaccine development and industrialization;


* Apply DOE and multivariate analysis for media and/or process characterization and optimization;


* Support media development & optimization activities, and evaluation of media performance for the production of vaccine antigens;


* Perform experiments that may require cell culture and antigen production;

* Work in a R&D lab/team environment under the leadership of a Scientist


* Train on the equipment, methods and procedures (including HSE and Biosafety) relevant to the summer project



Requirements:

* Must be an Undergraduate, Graduate, or Professional Student in good academic standing.
* Must have completed 12 credit hours within a related major and/or other related coursework.
* Overall, cumulative GPA (from last completed quarter) must be at least 3.200 (on 4.0 scale) or better (No rounding up).
* Major must be related to the field of internship.

Desired Experience, Skills and Abilities:

* Strong academic background in biochemical engineering, biotechnology, or related areas


* Experience in bioengineering/bioprocessing or microbiological applications


* Experience with development of spectroscopy methods - preferably fluorescence spectroscopy


* Experience with multivariate analysis


* Experience with chromatographic method development for analysis of biomolecules (mass spectrometry, HPLC, LC/MS)


* Experienced in mammalian cell culture and bacterial fermentation


* Experienced in purification processes for biomolecules


* Technical ability to assist in the execution of routine procedures and experiments


* Ability to operate the instrumentation / equipment associated with a bioprocess lab


* Proficient computer skills in MS® Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and ability to learn basic instrumentation software


* Traits: Attention to detail, organization and accuracy


* Comfortable working in a highly interactive and dynamic team setting

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.

Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)

Must be 18 years of age or older
