Job Description

The Watchlist Model Manager will lead the responsibility for helping develop and maintain leading edge AML models for name matching, watch-list monitoring, and providing input to the framework for model development. This position carries responsibility for the timely and accurate development of Name screening AML models. The testing, reviewing and validation activities include but is not limited to assisting the technical writers with model documentation, following the AML and Enterprise Modeling Governance standards; stating key assumptions, including qualitative and expert judgment, logic and conceptual soundness; conducting various tests.

* Accomplish AML Program objectives through the effective oversight and support of critical AML applications;

* Properly identify, report and escalate issues which may impact the AML Office resulting from performance, functionality or changes within critical applications;

* Perform first level review and analysis of issues or escalations received from other areas within the AML Office using data queries and SQL

* Assess the quality of the data for model development as well as inputs to the model, providing recommendations to improve the data quality at the source;

* Provide recommendations to improve monitoring systems and capabilities based on identified risk and control gaps;

* Assist in preparing materials required for Audits and Exams;

* Own and manage all tuning activities on all name screening tools used by the US AML office

* Assist in the evaluation of projects and initiatives across BMO to properly identify areas of impact concerning critical AML applications;

* Amend existing AML scenario logic and profiles;

* End-to-end design and documentation;

* Integration Complexity: Single/few impacted systems or applications;

* Experience with one or more of the following: Fircosoft, Bridger, SBS, Thompson Reuters screening solutions

* Managerial Leadership: While this role does not have any direct reports it will act as an informal team lead, providing day to day direction to the team, acting as the main go to person and providing informal coaching

* Provide and recommend actions to mitigate risk and use judgment-based decision-making regarding AML policies and procedures.

* Use and access confidential information related to customer information, product and financial information while adhering to corporate standards for dealing with that type of data.

This role will have a significant impact on maintaining the Bank's reputation through the ML/TF electronic monitoring and the education and coaching of staff on the detection and reporting of suspected money laundering, organized crime and terrorist financing.

* Detailed knowledge of anti-money laundering related requirements

* Detailed knowledge of data analysis / analytics / mining techniques

* Effective communication skills and proven ability to impact and influence

* Sound knowledge of banking operations

* Proven Leadership and Management capabilities

* Prior experience in data extraction, manipulation, analysis and reporting (1-3 years)

* Prior experience with data analysis tools (1-3 years)

* Prior experience in financial crime (1-3 years)

* Prior AML experience (1-3 years)

* Must have experience with one or more of Bridger, Fircosoft, GNR, Thompson Reuters etc. name screening tools

* Undergraduate degree or specific industry experience. Advanced degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics, Finance or MBA or other quantitative field preferred.
