Job Description

Software Quality Engineer - IT Member Services Portland, OR The Software Quality Engineer will be responsible for working as part of the Software Quality Assurance team which is passionate about product quality. This position is responsible for working with many groups within IT and with the business on analysis, design and development efforts to ensure high-quality testable deliverables. Solve challenging problems with cutting edge technology, use creative skills to solve problems for users. Plan, design, develop and execute automated and manual test cases and track defects.

Qualifications: Required Attributes Passion for quality assurance of end-user applications. Familiarity with QA tools and techniques (understanding of Agile development process is desired), bug tracking systems, test design and execution. Experience diagnosing, reporting, tracking and resolving quality issues. Ability to work at both detailed and abstract levels. Extensive experience with multiple software test design models and patterns. Experience with software test automation systems. Experience with structured programming and scripting languages required (such as: C/C++, Java, BASH shell, Python, Ruby). XML and SQL query authoring-level skills. Experience with Toad Data Analysis software or IBM DataStage desired. Ability to solve problems creatively. Comfort working in a distributed team. Ability to communicate clearly in writing, by phone, and in person. High productivity. Willingness and ability to create and adapt to new and cutting edge technologies. Ability to launch new projects and follow through to completion. Desire to solve real problems for real users. Motivated by making customers happy. Experience developing and executing manual and automated test suites. Experience testing web-based enterprise applications. Practices attentive and active listening; has the patience to hear people out; can accurately restate the opinions of others even when he/she disagrees. Experience working in a variety of programming languages and environments. Learns quickly when facing new problems a relentless and versatile learner. Analyzes both successes and failures for clues to improvement; experiments and will try anything to find solutions. Comes up with a lot of new and unique ideas; easily makes connections among previously unrelated notions; tends to be seen as original and value-added in brainstorming settings. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, and 5 years test engineering experience with 2 years of experience working on complex projects; 4 years of experience leading and mentoring test staff. Must be self-motivated and work with minimal direction. Able to prioritize workloads and effectively participate in multiple projects and priorities. Ability to work cooperatively in a group to achieve common goals. This position is available at levels III or IV DOE.
