Responsibilities

The Assistant Controller manages the day-to-day operations of the Finance department. Duties include ensuring the accuracy and consistency of data for inventory, fixed assets, accounts payable, accounts receivable and the general ledger, while directing the the preparation and timely delivery of financial reports. The position calls for directing month-end closings, ensuring that accounts are properly reconciled while highlighting inconsistencies or unusual transactions.

* Manage month end close processes, ensuring all time-lines are met.
* Review preliminary and final monthly financial statements. Confirm proper treatment and compliance of all accounting transactions under US GAAP standards.
* Manage all aspects of fixed asset accounting. Work with team members to ensure fixed assets are properly tracked and recorded including reviewing amounts capitalized & accruals for construction in progress, asset disposals, and transfers, and enforcing the fixed asset capitalization policy.
* Prepare and evaluate accounting reserves analysis.
* Ensure the proper reconciliations are prepared for g/l accounts each month, review account detail for accuracy.
* Implement and monitor various accounting policies, procedures and internal controls as necessary.
* Assist in managing and supporting system hardware and software applications.
* Engage with internal functional managers to review expenses vs budget to ensure company's expenses are in-line with budget. Hold monthly meetings to track and forecast expenses.
* Assist Controller and FP&A in researching/preparing budget vs actual variance analysis.
* Along with the operations and store personnel, coordinate the annual physical inventories for the warehouses and store including the development of communication materials and analyzing physical inventory results.
* Support the annual operating budget and re-forecast process.
* Support the year end audit as needed.
* Oversee sales and use tax filing processes.
* Review policy and procedures and implement best practices.
* Support implementation of new projects/software/tools as requested.
* Prepare special reports as requested management.
* Other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting. Generally 3-5 years finance experience with supervisory and management experience. CPA certification preferred

* Experience in public accounting a plus, not required
* Retail industry experience preferred
* Strong working knowledge of GAAP including inventory, fixed assets, revenue recognition standards, financial statements and budgeting
* Excellent knowledge of accounting and financial processes (budgeting, monthly closure and reporting)
* Intermediate knowledge of all accounting functions and related internal controls, including Accounts Payable/Receivable, Fixed Assets and Inventory
* Project management skills, taking an initiative from inception to completion and working with cross-functional leaders
* Strong team leadership and development skills. The ability to manage, influence, inspire, build and develop teams with varied skills sets
* Strong communication and relationship building skills. Must have the presence and communication skills to establish credibility across the organization at all levels and with external constituents such as the external auditors
* Detailed-oriented and "roll-up-your-sleeves" professional
* Strong organizational and time management skills
* Intelligent; intellectually curious; possess excellent analytical, quantitative reasoning and interpretive abilities
* Well-organized, inquisitive, confident, self-aware, decisive and creative
* Strong work ethic and integrity
* ERP experience (Microsoft AX a plus)
* Strong computer skills, specifically Word, Excel, Powerpoint
