Job Description:

BlackBerry is seeking a Senior / Intermediate Business Intelligence (BI) System Specialist for a permanent full-time position in Waterloo, ON. The BI System Specialist will be developing front/back end systems, dashboards and reports for internal users, taking responsibilities of maintaining data integrity, data security and smooth data flow supporting the internal business process.

Primary responsibilities: This is a technical role which includes software development, business data maintenance, business data services and routing business process support.

* Analyze business requirement, design, develop, test and deploy solutions.
* Assure quality, security and compliance requirements are met for supported area.
* Be flexible and thrive in multi-taking and an evolving environment.
* Adapt to change quickly and adjust work accordingly in a positive manner.
* Collaborate with IP group, Licensing and Business Units for patent portfolio analysis.

Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as computer science, computer engineering, mathematics or related field.
* 3 + years software development experience in multithreaded applications using Java.
* 3 + years UI development experience in HTML, JavaScript, CSS.
* 3 + years experience in writing large and complicated SQL query is essential.
* Experience with Unix/Linux operating systems as a developer or system administrator and knowledge of Unix/Linux scripting languages.
* Knowledge of big data and its ecosystem: Hadoop, MapReduce, HBase, Hive etc.
* Knowledge of professional software engineering practices for the full software development life cycle.
* Strong analytical skills including the ability to transform business logic gathering from end business users into solutions that include integration between distributed and/or third-party solutions.
* Strong communication skills and a sense of ownership and drive.
* Skilled in Excel and PowerPoint.
* Ability to provide logical reasoning to support conclusions.
* Create patent portfolio analysis documents in Excel and PowerPoint.
