Health Specialist Assistant

Assist Health Specialist with planning, development, implementation and evaluation of the Head Start Health Services Program. The Health Specialist assists with linking Head Start families with an ongoing system of health care, assisting parents in the selection of health providers, counseling them about child or family health problems, and promoting parent involvement in all aspects of the health program. Assists the Health Specialist with the Health Advisory Committee and local health care professionals and service providers to ensure that services for families are available and accessible. Under the direction of the Health Specialist reviews, evaluates and interprets health records and other vital health service data. Promotes health and safety practices in the program and coordinates safety and sanitation procedures, first aide and emergency medical procedures. Shares in the responsibility for the care, safety and well-being of all children in the program.

QUALIFICATIONS: Must be 18 years old or over and must have a high school diploma or GED certificate. Prefer some college level courses in Early Childhood and the Health field. Two years of experience in working with pre-school age children preferred. Must have good communication skills and be capable of working productively as a team member with other Head Start employees, families and professionals. Must have good organizational skills. Must have dependable transportation to travel throughout the Big Five Head Start area. Must comply with agency policies and procedures. Eligible applicants must pass a DHS Background review. Pre-employment drug testing required. Must have a valid Oklahoma driver’s license, proof of automobile liability insurance and a good driving record. Within 30 days of employment must be Pediatric first aid and CPR certified. Ability to respond appropriately (both mentally and physically) to an emergency or a crisis situation. Daily kneeling, stooping, bending, and sitting on the floor to attend to children's needs. Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
