Job Description

ATHLETIC BUSINESS MANAGER

The athletic business manager shall be a member of the management team in the department of athletics and reports directly to the Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics or designee, with the maintenance and controls, general ledger and business transactions of the department, via application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) that includes analytical work and thorough review of financial records.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Oversight and management of athletic business and finance operations with day to day, monthly and year-end operations of the business office;
* Planning, development, management and tracking of all athletic program budgets;
* Coordination with the Box Office, Business Affairs and marketing office on season ticket and sponsorship drives;
* Coordinate with the Office of Athletic Communications on the management of the athletic vending and licensing program;
* Providing data for completion of all NCAA, MEAC and University reports;
* Interfacing daily with the VP for Intercollegiate Athletics on all fiscal concerns;
* Process and record accounts payable transactions and ensure that all requisitions, invoices and reimbursements are paid accurately and accordance to financial policies;
* Assist with processing cash receipts and recording revenue in accordance with University policies;
* Review departmental expense reports and receipts submitted by staff members and cardholders on a monthly basis;
* Assist with the preparation of bank reconciliations and financial statements for the department;
* Assist with data management, to ensure accuracy and database integrity of all departmental business;
* On site management and coordination of fiscal operations of the departmental events. (Occasional weekends, evenings, and some travel may be required ;)
* Any additional duties as assigned by the Vice-President for Intercollegiate Athletics.

Skills & Competencies:

* Extensive accounting and managerial skills;
* Experience with NCAA and Intercollegiate Athletics programs and a complete understanding of athletic administration;
* Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload in order to meet tight deadlines;
* Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills;
* Be able to demonstrate attention to details and good record keeping;
* Proficient in Microsoft Office Products (Especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint, & Access);
* Hands on detail oriented tasks;
* Team player that can collaborate with other members of the organization;
* High level of interpersonal skills with demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy;
* Demonstrate a proficient level of professional skill and or knowledge in accounting keep current with developments and trends;
* Knowledge and ability to use applicable information technology and systems to meet work needs;
* Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, with the ability to clearly communicate issues to all levels of the organization.

Environmental and Physical Conditions:

* Working environment is a normal business office setting;
* Normal manual dexterity and visual and auditory acuity;
* Must be mobile throughout the campus;
* Typically, the incumbent may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, or carrying of light items;

NCAA PRINCIPLES OF ETHICAL CONDUCT

NCAA Bylaw 10.01.1 Honesty and Sportsmanship. Individuals employed by and associated with Bethune-Cookman University or any other NCAA member institution to administer, conduct or coach intercollegiate athletics and all participating athletes shall deport themselves with honesty and sportsmanship at all times so that intercollegiate athletics as a whole, their institutions and they, as individuals, shall represent the honor and dignity of fair play and the generally recognized standards associated with wholesome competitive sports.

NCAA Bylaw 10.1 Unethical Conduct Unethical conduct by a prospective or enrolled student-athlete or an institutional staff member may include, but is not limited to, the following: (a) Refusal to furnish information relevant to an investigation of a possible violation of an NCAA regulation when requested to do so by the NCAA or Bethune-Cookman University;

(b) Knowing involvement in arranging for fraudulent academic credit or false transcripts for a perspective or an enrolled student-athlete:(c) Knowing involvement in offering or providing a prospective or an enrolled student-athlete an improper inducement or extra benefit, or

(d) Knowingly furnishing the NCAA or Bethune-Cookman University false or misleading information concerning the individuals, involvement in or knowledge of a violation of matters relevant to a possible violation of an NCAA regulation.
