Job Description

Job Summary

Manages the operations of the Business Office, which is responsible for all the accounting, payroll, accounts payable, student financials, cashiering, and financial reporting functions of the University and the Foundation. Provides professional support to the Chief Financial Officer.


* Oversees the work of the Assistant Controller, the Student Accounts Manager, and the Accounts Payable Manager.
* Assists the Chief Financial Officer in the development of the annual budget for the entire University
* Manages the annual audit process.
* Manages the development, installation, and maintenance of: computerized financial system upgrades and revisions, computerized reports, and complex financial system tables.
* Monitors cash reserves and cash investments
* Develops and maintains appropriate financial and budget policies and procedures.

Required Skills

* Working knowledge of computerized financial systems, preferably Banner, is required.
* Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles is required.
* Must have demonstrated experience with financial statement and report preparation.
* Must possess effective oral communication, writing, organizational, analytical, problem solving, supervisory and group leadership skills.
* Ability to use Microsoft Excel at a highly proficient level is required.
* Individual must be able to handle sensitive, confidential information in a mature, professional manner.

Required Experience

Minimum: 5 years experience in management accounting.Preferred: Experience in higher education or a large not-for-profit organization

Required Education

Minimum of a bachelor's degree with a major in accounting or business administration required. CPA or CMA preferred.

Additional Information

* Must be able to work in a sitting position at a computer for extended periods of times.
* This is a 1.0 FTE, 12 months per year position.
