Job Description

The Paraprofessional is part of an interdisciplinary team of professionals who are expected to provide the highest calibre of instruction in individual and/or small class settings.

This position will be located in the EVOLVE Academy, located in Medina County. EVOLVE is an alternative school for students who are on an IEP and have not been able to effectively learn in a traditional school environment due to their psychological, behavioral and/or emotional stressors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Assist in the teaching and behavior management of the classroom by developing and implementing lesson plans and curriculum that are in line with IEP goals and objectives.
  2. Care of children, which includes supervising children when using restroom, care of sick children, assisting children with meals, management of student clothes and assisting during bus/school transition and clean up of bathrooms, vomit, and blood in the building as necessary.
  3. Plan and organize daily activities to optimize treatment program.
  4. Instruct/train children in socially acceptable alternatives to negative and destructive behavior.
  5. Protect children from physical and emotional harm emanating from themselves, others, or the environment.
  6. Properly handle emergencies such as injury, runaway and acting out situations.
  7. Teach and role model pro-social, mediation, and self-management skills.
  8. Keep daily, weekly and monthly student behavioral records.
  9. Demonstrate through role modelling the values associated with mainstream society.
  10. Development of trusting, positive relationships among children and staff in the facility.
  11. Initiate and facilitate all necessary communication with members of the team.
  12. Sensitivity to the racial, cultural and developmental backgrounds of individual clients and the group as a whole.
  13. Contribute to the development and maintenance of the educational record through the timely completion of assigned documentation in accordance with applicable licensing and accreditation regulations and standards.

OTHER DUTIES:

  1. Attend staff meetings, treatment conferences and team meetings.
  2. Attend scheduled staff meetings, supervision, and on-going training.
  3. All required trainings, certifications and licensure must be kept current in accordance with applicable licensing and accreditation regulations and standards.
  4. Respect the privacy of students and hold in confidence all information obtained during the client's treatment. All client-related documents should be handled in accordance with Agency guidelines on confidential material.
  5. Maintain high standards of ethical and professional conduct and adhere to Agency policies and procedures.

A Bachelor's Degree is required.
