Job Description

The Chaplain II for Baylor Scott and White Health (BSWH) provides advanced spiritual care as part of the holistic, multidisciplinary team approach when helping patients deal with or recover from their illness or injury. He / She provides compassionate spiritual and emotional support for all Baylor Scott & White Health patients, family members and staff, regardless of faith background or religious affiliation as well as participates in the training and professional development of staff and oversees volunteers and residents. In addition, the Chaplain II for BSWH has the following responsibilities:

ï-½ Plans, coordinates, organizes, and conducts religious services for patients, their families and staff including weekly worship, memorial services, baptisms, weddings, anointing and coordinating bereavement needs

ï-½ Provides counseling and other spiritual education activities for employees, students, and patients

ï-½ Supports the end-of-life care for patients by offering pastoral support and counseling to patients and families

ï-½ Collaborates with physicians, nurses, social workers, counselors, and ancillary staff as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team in assessing patient needs and to strengthen patient care

ï-½ Conducts a pastoral assessment of a patient's spiritual and emotional status and the need for spiritual care

ï-½ Develops relationships with local churches, community agencies and service organizations which supports the Baylor Scott & White Health community. Recruits, trains, and coordinates pastoral care volunteers

ï-½ Documents and maintains individual records of spiritual counseling for patients

The ideal candidate for the Chaplain II role will have knowledge of philosophical systems and religions and principles and methods of pastoral care; excellent interpersonal and listening skills, verbal and written communication skills and counseling skills; and the ability to counsel and comfort patients and their family members during periods of stress in a professional courteous and empathetic manner.

ï-½ Shift/Schedule ï-½ Full Time Sunday - Thursday 10:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m
