Position Title: Systems Administrator I or Systems Administrator II

Position Purpose: 

Systems Administrator I: This position assists the Enterprise software deployment, software packaging, Operating System (OS) Deployment, and Patch management efforts for Basin Electric Power Cooperative (BEPC) and its subsidiaries.  The incumbent assists the day-to-day administration of Microsoft’s System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) in a large multi-site environment. The scope of SCCM is all encompassing, from client endpoints to servers and as it relates to OS and Application deployment, patching, reporting, and backend maintenance. System Administrators are responsible for the remote desktop that employees and vendors access.  This position is identified as a Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) related position which may allow physical and/or logical access to Bulk Electric System (BES) cyber related assets or systems.

Qualifications

Systems Administrator I:  To perform effectively in this position, the incumbent must have a basic knowledge of networking principles, communications technologies and security principles, and new computing technologies at a level acquired through the completion of a two-year degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or a related field and two years of related information technology experience; or a four-year degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field. Good customer service and time management skills, as well as the ability to demonstrate effective written and verbal communications skills are required. The incumbent must have experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. This position travels up to 5 percent of the time by car.

Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands: 

This position requires frequent sitting and standing/walking; and occasional reaching below and above shoulder level, use of keyboard/computer, bending, kneeling, lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds, and pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds. It also requires finger dexterity and hand coordination. This position requires good hearing and vision, and the ability to speak. It also requires the ability to develop plans, procedures, and goals; present information to others; and work under stress to complete projects within deadlines. Occasionally, the incumbent works in conditions of dirt/dust, fumes, chemicals, extreme heat/cold, vibration, and noise. This position may be required to operate a motor vehicle or fly in Cooperative or commercial aircraft.

About Basin Electric Power Cooperative

Basin Electric is a consumer-owned, regional cooperative headquartered in Bismarck. It generates and transmits electricity to member rural electric systems in nine states: Colorado, Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming. These member systems distribute electricity to about 1.7 million consumers. The power plants operated by Basin Electric include: two coal-based power plants in North Dakota - the Antelope Valley Station, Beulah, and the Leland Olds Station, Stanton; a coal-based power plant in Wyoming - the Laramie River Station, Wheatland; an oil-based peaking station - the Spirit Mound Station, Vermillion, S.D.; nine combustion-turbine generators (natural gas) in the Gillette, Wyo., area; four wind turbines - two near Minot, N.D., and two near Chamberlain, S.D. By the end of 2003, Basin Electric will purchase the entire production from two 40-megawatt wind farms, one near Edgeley, N.D. and another near Highmore, S.D.
