Position Title: Accounting Analyst III

Department/Location: Financial Services; Bismarck, ND

Position Purpose: 

This position is responsible to determine the proper accounting for fixed asset transactions in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and Cooperative policies and procedures. This position is also responsible to maintain and reconcile fixed asset data in the Asset Management system, balance the subsidiary ledger to the general ledger for final disposition on the consolidated financial statements, and analyze data and develop asset reports for review by Cooperative management and external entities using third-party tools. The incumbent is also responsible for data integrity during development, implementation, and on-going maintenance of the Asset Management system. 


To perform effectively in this position, the incumbent must have an advanced understanding of transactions and how they inter-relate, and GAAP and ERP systems at a level acquired through the completion of a four-year degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business-related discipline and six years of accounting, finance, or business-related experience. This position requires strong analytical skills, proficiency in personal computer operation, experience with accounting for fixed assets, reporting software (Access, Excel, Cognos), other information systems (Infor, Asset Suite), and a good working knowledge of relational database concepts. The ability to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills is also required.


Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands: 

This position requires frequent sitting and standing/walking; and occasional reaching below and above shoulder level, use of keyboard/computer, bending, kneeling, lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds, and pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds. It also requires finger dexterity and hand coordination. This position requires good hearing and vision, and the ability to speak. It also requires the ability to develop plans, procedures and goals; present information to others; and work under stress to complete projects within deadlines.

About Basin Electric Power Cooperative

Basin Electric is a consumer-owned, regional cooperative headquartered in Bismarck. It generates and transmits electricity to member rural electric systems in nine states: Colorado, Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming. These member systems distribute electricity to about 1.7 million consumers. The power plants operated by Basin Electric include: two coal-based power plants in North Dakota - the Antelope Valley Station, Beulah, and the Leland Olds Station, Stanton; a coal-based power plant in Wyoming - the Laramie River Station, Wheatland; an oil-based peaking station - the Spirit Mound Station, Vermillion, S.D.; nine combustion-turbine generators (natural gas) in the Gillette, Wyo., area; four wind turbines - two near Minot, N.D., and two near Chamberlain, S.D. By the end of 2003, Basin Electric will purchase the entire production from two 40-megawatt wind farms, one near Edgeley, N.D. and another near Highmore, S.D.
