The Business Development Manager/Specialist is responsible for challenging, strengthening, and converting new opportunities into sustainable profitable business. This position will emphasize development of strategies and preliminary business cases that support the BASF Monomers business for MDI in the construction industry.

Business Development Manager/Market Development Specialist (1703300) - Wyandotte, MI

Candidates considering this challenging role will be expected to highlight the following technical competencies:

Project Management - executing to plan and meeting deadlines in the face of ambiguity; defines mile-stones and decision points that allow periodic review when gaining more information throughout the project.

Strategy Development - leveraging intelligence, pre-selling ideas, and forming a practice around the development of sound business strategy (e.g., technology requirements, investment, partnerships, and new business models).

Innovation Strategy and Pipeline Management - aligning with the business unit strategic imperatives, establishing the sources for product development growth, reconciling with the current project pipeline, and follow-through on gap-filling measures.

Strategic IP Management - evaluating the patents, trade secrets, and copyright portfolio of a business and assessing its exposure to risk related to competitiveness.

Technology Scouting - applying a deep understanding of the functional characteristics of the offering to a new opportunity to assess the technical barriers/efficacy.

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Be responsible for marketing and business development efforts in wood binder and other technologies supporting the construction industry
- Lead without direct authority through demonstrating skills in being clear and honest to garner support before work is required of extended team members
- Serve as Marketing Lead for communication strategy in the construction space.
- Function as Tech Scout for new opportunities involving MDI and TDI technology.
- Identify new business ideas and opportunities to fill the innovation pipeline.
- Manage high-value development projects through the phase-gate process and work closely with R&D colleagues to focus/drive development projects.
- Lead new product introduction, including product trials as well as external communications related to market penetration.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
- Bachelor's degree in a technical or business discipline and 7 years of experience OR Masters degree with 5 years of experience OR PhD with 2 years of experience is required(e.g, Chemistry, Engineering, or Marketing)

- Bachelor's degree with 10 years of experience OR Masters degree with 8 years of experience OR PhD with 5 years of experience preferred.

- Experience in Sales, Marketing, Finance, or a technical field required.
- Excellent communication skills are a must. Oral, written, and presentation skills are key to success
- Strategic thinker with strong business acumen, entrepreneurial acting (with organizational awareness) is critical.
- Solid people skills, particularly in working with customers and internal colleagues.
- Knowledge in MDI/TDI chemistry is a plus.
- Wood binder experience is desired.
- Phase-gate experience preferred

- Must be willing to travel up to 30%.
