The Lab Chemist will be part of the Architectural Coatings Team and will be based in Charlotte, NC, and support the overall success of the Dispersions & Resins business in North America.

Lab Chemist, Architectural & Decorative Coatings - Colorants Formulation - 1702620

Formula for Success: You Will…

As the Lab Chemist, you will complete hands-on application work on technical service projects for existing products and new products entering the commercialization phase to support growth with our customers. In addition, you may coordinate lab work with Application Laboratory Technicians, take general direction/collaboration with Technical Specialists, and be responsible for equipment, SOP/JSA, and writing reports.

As a part of the Application Laboratory team under the Technical Team Leader/Technical Manager you will:
- Conduct, under guidance, technical comparison of BASF products vs. competitive products in industry-specific application tests (proactive to determine value proposition and reactive in case of customer request) and provides others with respective results/analyses/path forward.
- Complete technical application tests of products for troubleshooting to derive product recommendations and/or formulation recommendations by using multiple product lines of the portfolio and for support of growth opportunities and recommendation of next steps.
- Manage complaints (production &/or customer): Perform technical testing and assessment of individual products via application testing and other analysis, providing others with respective results/analyses and recommendation of next steps.
- Organize R&D application testing, results, data of new product evaluation, formulation support and recommendation of next steps especially for products entering commercialization phase.
- Ensure and work in compliance with EH&S and ISO standards [minimum expectation].

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
- BS degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Engineering, Organic Chemistry, Materials or other related Science with 2+ years of experience in coatings, liquid or dry pigments, color or pigments and dispersions OR MS/PhD degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Engineering, Organic Chemistry, Materials or other related Science
- Demonstrated experience working on multiple tasks and projects as well as directing others
- Demonstrated experience designing and directing laboratory experiments, interpreting results and designing of follow-up experiments
- Experience and knowledge in application &/or formulation of related technology and training of others
- Maintenance of laboratory and laboratory equipment in compliance with ISO, knowledge of test methods and writing respective SOP/JSA.
- Reporting of results in presentation as well as documentation (laboratory reports)
- Work effectively in a team environment and also on individual efforts and be able to work well under minimum supervision as well as directing others (technicians)
