The Technical Application Laboratory Chemist will be part of the Construction & Fiber Bonding team and will be based in Charlotte, NC and support the overall success of the Dispersions & Resins business in North America.

As the Technical Application Laboratory Chemist, you will complete hands-on application work on technical service projects for existing products and new products entering the commercialization phase to support growth with our customers. In addition, you will coordinate lab work with Application Laboratory Technicians, may take general direction/collaboration with Technical Specialists, and will be responsible for equipment, SOP/JSA, and writing reports. You will be a part of the Construction & Fiber Bonding Application Laboratory team reporting directly to the Technical Team Leader.

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Conducting technical comparison of BASF products vs. competitive products in industry-specific application tests (proactive to determine value proposition and reactive in case of customer request) and provides others with respective results/analyses/path forward.
- Completing technical application tests of products for troubleshooting to derive product recommendations and/or formulation recommendations by using multiple product lines of the portfolio and for support of growth opportunities and recommendation of next steps.
- Working with project teams to develop waterbased starting point formulations for new/existing product portfolio.
- New method development and troubleshooting existing methods.
- Complaint management (production &/or customer): Performing technical testing and assessment of individual products via application testing and other analysis, providing others with respective results/analyses and recommendation of next steps.
- Organizing R&D application testing, results, data of new product evaluation, formulation support and recommendation of next steps especially for products entering commercialization phase.
- Ensuring and working in compliance with EH&S and ISO standards [minimum expectation].
- Maintenance of laboratory and laboratory equipment in compliance with 6S and ISO, knowledge of test methods and writing respective SOP/JSA.
- Working cross functionally with R&D, marketing and sales departments.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry or material science (or similar field) + 2 years' industrial experience OR Master's degree in chemistry or material science (or similar field)
- Minimum of 2 years' experience formulation and application of waterbased binders and related technology
- Strong laboratory skills and ability to work on multiple tasks and projects
- Experience designing and directing laboratory experiments, interpreting results, designing of follow-up experiments, and training of others
- Good verbal and written communication skills, reporting of results in presentation as well as documentation (laboratory reports)
- Work effectively in a team environment under minimum supervision, as well as when directing others (technicians)
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry or material science (or similar field) + 5 years' industrial experience OR Master's degree +3 years' industrial experience
- Minimum of 3 years' experience formulation and application of waterbased binders and related technology
