Job Description

Summary

The person selected for this position will work as part of project teams to complete civil and environmental engineering and related technical assignments. Project work may include water quality investigations and modeling; NPDES and environmental permitting; hydraulic and hydrologic modeling and analysis; water supply development; and assistance with contaminated site assessment and remediation projects. The engineer will also be expected to participate in field assignments involving environmental sampling, hydrologic measurements, surveying, construction observation, observing well drilling operations, etc. Assignments may also include work with GIS, CADD, and spreadsheets; drafting reports; assisting in completing plans and specifications; developing permit applications and performing regulatory reviews; and working with permitting agencies and public officials. The work may at times involve short-term, out-of-town assignments.

NOTE: Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites, sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials, and mining sites. Participation in an MSHA safety training program and OSHA-mandated physical examination and medical surveillance program may be required. All safety training will be provided. Applicants must be able to work in locations that feature the rough terrain typical of construction sites and to enter and work within facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities.

Minimum Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in civil/environmental engineering or related discipline
* Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification, or ability to obtain certification within one year
* Basic understanding of water-related environmental regulations
* Understanding of hydrologic analysis, open-channel and pipe flow, lake and stream water quality issues, and stormwater best management practices (BMPs)
* Strong computer skills, including word processing and use of spreadsheets, and exposure to hydrologic and hydraulic computer modeling, GIS, and CADD software
* Flexible working style, self motivation, and willingness to occasionally modify personal schedules as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs
* Ability to work in teams, concentrate on details and keep project information organized
* Capacity to thrive in fast-paced work situations
* Conscientiousness concerning the accuracy, appropriateness, and timeliness of results
* Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
* Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship
* Acceptable driving record

Preferred Qualifications

* M.S. degree in civil or environmental engineering
* 3-5 years of environmental consulting experience
* Strong technical skills in a wide range of civil engineering topics
* Experience with NPDES Permitting
* Project or task management experience
* Experience with contaminated stormwater and wastewater treatment
* Familiarity with pollutant load allocation and waste load allocation development
* Experience with ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Civil 3D or other CADD-based civil design software
* Experience with hydrologic, hydraulic, and water-quality models
* Experience with water environmental regulations and permitting in Missouri or other states
* Experience with construction oversight
* Project design experience (e.g. water/wastewater treatment facilities, site or roadway design, stormwater management facility design, etc.), including preparation of plans and specifications
