Job Description

Role Summary:

Under the direction of the lab supervisor, the materials testing lab intern will prepare samples, perform materials testing, document and analyze the data. During this time, you will learn and perform microstructural evaluation, density and hardness testing, other materials testing as needed.

Essential Responsibilities:

In this role Materials Testing Lab Intern, you will:

* Evaluate samples submitted for metallographic examination as defined by ASTM standards.
* Section, mount and polish samples and perform microscopic analysis.
* Operates small machinery such as cut off saws, polishers and mounting presses.
* Ability to safely handle chemicals used to make etchants
* Collect hardness testing data utilizing a hardness tester
* Maintains calibration of test equipment
* Analyze, interpret and report the results of examinations as required.
* Assist in developing standard operating procedures and work instructions for the materials testing lab
* Possess good team skills, time management and ability to meet deadlines
* High attention to detail and accuracy
* Performs additional tasks as needed

Qualifications/Requirements:

* Enrolled in a BS or MS degree program in Engineering from an accredited university
* Maintain a GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent

Eligibility Requirements

* Work a 6-month block

Desired Characteristics:

* Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university
* Strong attention to detail and basic problem solving and troubleshooting skills
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word , Excel and Powerpoint)
* Basic Math skills required
