Position Summary:

The Global Cost Diagnostics and Proposals Practice Analyst will help to achieve Bain's Performance Improvement practice goals by providing analytical support for the practice, primarily focused on the comparative cost structures of clients and their competitors. This includes: developing, maintaining, and executing our approach for financial analysis of clients and prospective clients; understanding Bain's Performance Improvement approaches and experience in depth; supporting Bain's commercial efforts; conducting quantitative and qualitative analysis for IP investment projects; contributing to research, analysis, and codification of Bain points of view; conducting research for selected Bain publications; helping to identify and develop content for internal and external meetings; and collaborating with Knowledge team to support case teams as necessary (primarily in select areas of Analyst expertise). Over time, the analyst is expected to develop broad knowledge of Bain's Performance Improvement toolkit, assume larger intellectual and team roles, and demonstrate a steady upward trajectory in the depth and scope of his/her contributions.

Department Overview

Bain's Performance Improvement practice is focused on improving the cost structures of our clients, maximizing their earnings and helping them outperform the market. We design and execute cost transformations, operations improvements (supply chain, procurement, manufacturing), corporate support function redesigns, and the simplification/digitization of services.

Essential Functions:

The Practice Analyst plays a critical role in supporting Bain's ability to deliver outstanding results for our clients. This position is a full-time role supporting the Performance Improvement practice area.

* Support execution of Cost diagnostics for both commercial efforts and live cases
* Core focus will be data analysis of cost structures across a wide variety of industries to identify best practices and drivers of performance variation, working with a team of two onshore and two offshore resources
* Work with a wider team of analysts to review financial statements and investor presentations to refine Bain's detailed POVs on company and industry performance

* Coordinate with our practice leadership to prioritize highest-value commercial efforts and case team support, manage the pipeline
* Support development of new commercial models, working with Bain's practice leadership teams
* Support IP efforts as required within Bain's Performance Improvement practice
* Vendor management as needed (likely with third-party data suppliers)
* Effectively collaborate with the KS/KA and BCC team to help deliver strong results and seamless case team support

* Bachelor or equivalent undergraduate degree in Business, Economics or Engineering required with strong academic credentials
* 1-3 years of experience in a professional services firm environment with exposure to financial analysis, accounting, or consulting preferred
* Desire to work in a fast-paced and sometimes demanding professional environment, with an exceptional ability to juggle multiple priorities at one time
* Track record of managing and improving complex processes, with flawless attention to detail and very strong organizational and problem-solving skills
* Proven ability to make sound business decisions in high-pressure situations
* A team spirit, excellent interpersonal skills, and customer service orientation
* Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
* Experience designing and executing complex analyses and modeling in Excel, with proficient knowledge of building pivot tables, vlookups and other advanced functions
* Experience working with Alteryx and Tableau preferred
* Proficient with PowerPoint, Word and Outlook
* Ability to quickly learn new programs/processes and adapt to achieve desired results
