Job Description

SQL Database Developer

The Auto Care Association is the voice for the auto care industry-a coast-to-coast network of 500,000 independent manufacturers, distributors, parts stores and repair shops offering quality, choice and innovation for drivers. The Auto Care Association keeps its members ahead of the curve so they can continue to serve every kind of vehicle on the road today-providing parts and services designed to make vehicles last longer, perform better and keep drivers safer.

We are currently seeking an exceptional SQL Database Developer to add to our talented technology team. The SQL Database Developer is responsible for the development, modification, and documentation of database objects to leverage database technology with regards to opportunities that enhance the organization's data needs. This position reports to the Senior Software Engineer.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Assist in defining system requirements by consulting data administrators, system users and third-party vendors about the types of information and performance needed
  • Design and develop data models and database architecture
  • Coordinate with other Association staff to ensure a high level of communication and manage the expectations of business departments
  • Maintain data standards; write and maintain database documentation for data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata); and manage the integration of common data through the effective use of proper key and index management
  • Work effectively as part of a team in resolving escalated reporting and database issues promptly
  • Provide a high level of customer service and appropriate coverage for critical problems
  • Actively participate in the process of identifying issues and recommending solutions
  • Create technical documentation, data models, and data flow diagrams
  • Conduct and manage special projects as assigned. This includes work breakdowns, task definition, vendor coordination and regular status reporting using standard Project Management Methodology and Agile Methodologies
  • Provide administrative reports as required, both periodic updates on activities and project status, as well as special reports in response to user or management inquiry
  • Provide vendor liaison for principal projects and evaluate vendor proposals

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field of study
  • 3+ years' experience with Microsoft SQL Server and at least two years of experience creating a Data Warehouse using Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services to develop OLAP and other Business Intelligence tools. Recent experience creating SSIS packages is also required.
  • Experience in SSIS and SSRS
  • Experience in MSSQL server, mainly writing stored procedures and triggers
  • Experience with report writing tools, such as Crystal Report, Power BI, Tableau
  • Familiar with content management systems (CMS), such as Ektron and EpiServer
  • Familiar with consuming Windows and Web services
  • Familiar with developing web applications using ASP.NET and VB.NET
  • Must foster a high level of communication, which includes regular participation at department meetings
  • Must interact professionally with volunteer community and be committed, helpful, responsive and effective
  • Either of the following Microsoft database administration certifications is a plus: Microsoft Certified Database Developer (MCDBA) or Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP)
