Job Description

Do you want to help protect tomorrow's future leaders? Well then this opportunity is prefect for you; become an Emergency Management Intern here at Austin Independent School District's (AISD) Emergency Management Bureau! The EM Bureau here at AISD works to provide services that promote a safe and secure environment for individuals utilizing programs and facilities supported by AISD. Our goal is to serve as the benchmark for school-based emergency management in Texas. As an intern, you will be given an opportunity to apply your knowledge, skills, and abilities to AISD emergency planning and preparedness efforts.

Internship Overview

Summer internships and semester long internships are available and we can be flexible with hours to help work with your schedule, however a minimum of 20 hours per week is preferred.

Interns will have an opportunity to learn, hands on, information that directly pertains to emergency preparedness in an educational setting. The uniqueness of school district emergency preparedness comes from the uniqueness of the communities in which we serve here at AISD. Interns will have an opportunity to experience planning and mitigating, with the possibility of getting to experience responding and recovering from different types of incidents we deal with here at AISD. Interns will be assigned various duties, including, but not limited to, plan review and development and will even have an opportunity to choose a project to work on for the duration of their internship that could possibly be implemented into AISD's emergency preparedness plans.

Please Note: If your school requires you to have an internship component to your degree completion, please let us know so we can try to accommodate those specifics.

Depending on the results of the phone interview, we will schedule a follow-up, face-to-face interview. The decision to extend an internship will be made following the face-to-face interview in a timely manner.
