Director of Finance

The Austen Riggs Center is located in the village of Stockbridge in the beautiful Berkshire Mountains of western Massachusetts. Austen Riggs Center is a 501(c)(3) voluntary and open psychiatric hospital/residential treatment program and center for education and research.

We seek a qualified financial professional to join our staff. Under the direction of the COO/CFO the director of finance is responsible for detailed financial analysis, management of accounts receivable, accounts payable and payroll, supervision of business office staff, set-up and oversight of finance IT system, preparation of financial reports, oversight of all audit and internal control operations to assure compliance with applicable financial laws and guidelines including timely regulatory reporting. The director also oversees liability and malpractice insurance contracts and works closely with COO/CFO on legal and operations issues.

Qualifications include:

  • BS/BA in Accounting or related field required; MBA preferred. Minimum of 5 years of experience in a supervisory accounting role. Nonprofit and/or healthcare experience is preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge in financial and general ledger; proficiency with GAAP and computerized accounting/budgeting/payroll/HR systems required.
  • Demonstrated organizational, administrative, supervisory and problem solving skills.
  • Requires effective communication and interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective relationships with employees, managers and outside contacts.

For over 85 years, the Austen Riggs Center has offered long-term residential and hospital-level psychiatric treatment based on intensive, four-times-weekly individual psychotherapy, provided by psychiatrists and psychologists who have advanced and specialized training. From hospital to residential to supervised and unsupervised apartment living, Riggs provides continuity of care with the same psychotherapist, psychopharmacologist and interdisciplinary team through various levels of treatment and living arrangements. Treating an average of 70 patients in a completely open setting, Riggs remains one of the few psychiatric treatment centers in the United States committed to the intensive work necessary to help patients take charge of their lives.
