Job Description

Data Governance Internship

Asurion's internship program is a 12-week internship to help rising seniors get a sneak peek into the Data Governance world. Assigned to a team, interns will have their own projects to complete and present to leadership at the end of the summer. The program will provide the intern with a unique strategic perspective, professional and personal development along the way, and experiences to enhance their academic learnings. Our goal is to allow for the intern to make contributions throughout the summer through project work, presentations and networking.

Asurion's Internship:

* Open to rising seniors currently enrolled in undergrad pursuing a degree related to internship duties or major below.
* Duration of internship is 12 weeks from May 18th - August 7, 2020.
* Continuous learning and tailored on the job training in;
* Data Governance,
* Data Management
* Data Quality
* Data Stewardship
* Exposure to asurion leadership including but not limited to Risk Management, Data Retention and Metadata Management.
* Build an intern community through peer intern groups, mentors, direct intern leaders, senior leadership throughout the summer.

The Team - Global Data Governance and Stewardship

This is a unique opportunity to work hands on with a leading-edge team that is currently developing Asurion's global data governance and stewardship program. Global data is the fastest growing area in the world today and brings with it some of the biggest risk and challenges.

Your internship with the data governance team will be a deep dive into what it takes to manage petabytes of on-line data both in the cloud and on-premise. You will be given the opportunity to drive a data quality plan. Set goals and expectations for identify risk's to asurion data and see how remediation of those data risks occur.

As a member of our team, you will not just observe, but be an active participant in stewardship training sessions, data governance standards creation and see firsthand the full-life cycle data governance process for a global company.

Preferred Majors:

* Pursuing Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Security, Human Computer Interaction, or related data field, with a graduation date between August 2020 - May 2021

Requirements:

* 0 year's experience with data governance concepts, methodology and processes
* Some knowledge of cloud technologies and architecture including AWS, Azure
* Excellent technical analysis and problem-solving skills
* Excellent communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with a leadership, business or technical audience and clearly communicate technical issues in a non-technical way
* Knowledge of creating data design documents a plus

Responsibilities:

* Develop a working knowledge of Asurion's overall data governance program and assist in meeting our 2020 goals and objectives
* Develop a Data Quality Improvement Plan - set goals and objectives
* Build a business case for a specific data quality initiative - focus on a high value target
* Link data quality plan to data architecture - design improvements into data design and implementation
* Develop reusable data improvement approaches that can be applied across the organization and can tackle new and exists challenges
* Develop / automate data quality improvements - develop data quality toolkit to support reusable approaches
* Act as the focal point for one or more data quality initiatives
